Where attention goes, energy flows

I’m sure you have heard this saying before: “Where attention goes, energy flows”, but what does that mean to you? Without looking it up, how do you interpret it? I can surely agree that where your attention goes surely energy flows, in person or online.

When I light my clove incense, I often say clear XYZ that I picked up in person or online. Likewise, when I light my cinnamon incense, I say, “Bring sweetness into all areas of my life, in person and online,” because guess what: energy flows in both!

We may often think the things we look at online may not affect us … that “like” on a post, that “care” reaction to support a cause, a friend in need, but is it that our energy goes to this because our attention went to it? Yes, I believe this.

I once did a course in Reiki, one of the many courses I was excited to try at the point in my life where I was exploring new things, any and everything from Thai yoga, to Reiki to meditation. But when we do these things to help others, do we clear ourselves? Do we know how to?

Not to stray, I mentioned before that I was a big fan of the book The Secret growing up, and I remember that it spoke about how our society has become so content about fighting against things – war, poverty, drugs, terrorism etc. But can we support perhaps as they said in the book a peace rally instead of an anti-war rally? Because then we do not show our support for war but of peace? Is this in denial of the existence of such a cause doing this? No. Maybe it’s just the mindset, the mindset that where attention goes energy flows.

Why do I want to surround myself with thoughts or energy of negativity? Some might say it is in denial of the negatives that are present in the world—news, crime, etc.,—but really, it is about protecting oneself from such thoughts. Why worry about these issues? Why focus on them? Why bring attention to these things when there are so many positive elements in our homes, life, and in the world and outdoors to focus on?

Is this the mindset of someone living up to their highest potential? Living in their purpose and authentic self? The community they want to surround themselves by? Why would you want to surround yourself with that daily? Maybe that is what’s wrong with the media; today content is available so freely and abundantly with social media, but do we have to focus on all of it? Absolutely not—and why should we?

Now, I’m not saying don’t support causes, but can we reframe the way we say things, in support of XYZ? Can we say a peace rally instead of an anti-war rally? Maybe it’s just how I see the world and what I would like for my community, too. Let’s focus on light and love. Light and love energy, light and love thoughts, light and love words and light and love action … what do you think?

Can decluttering influence the way we think about our words and topics we give attention to when we clear our space of clutter? Can ridding ourselves of clutter help us feel more at ease and make the home feel lighter? I mentioned in my previous blog the science of decluttering, and the scientific support of how a decluttered space helps you mentally! So, what are your thoughts on this? Will you think twice about the way you speak, the things you see online and the people you interact with in person?
