What to do after decluttering?
After decluttering, I would say there are a few things to do. Decluttering doesn’t only involve physical labour, but also requires mental and emotional energy and attention. You are choosing to disconnect from these items emotionally, but more so making the mental decision to disconnect.
After decluttering, I always recommended that you take a shower. Showers are known to be naturally cleansing. As you shower, residue, grime and anything else that might cling to you goes down the drains. Not to mention showers are refreshing after a long day of cleaning and decluttering. Let’s say that showering is an added step in cleansing your energy and self from the things that you’ve decluttered or let go. It’s also a great way to start your day by shifting its energy in a positive way.
You can clear your space after decluttering by various other methods. Make sure to choose one that you are comfortable with and can relate to. These may include lighting a bundle of sage (windows open,),followed by palo santo (windows closed). You can try lighting incense, such as clove (windows open), which is known to remove negative energy, followed by lighting cinnamon or jasmine incense, which has a sweet aroma. I personally like lighting incense and using sage and palo santo, because I wear crystals, which have to be cleansed.
At the beginning and completion of decluttering, you can simply sit in a room and ask yourself, “How does this room in my home make me feel? Excited, safe, comfortable, joyful, happy?”
In my packages, I ask you to complete a short questionnaire in which I also ask this question: “How does your home make you feel?”
What does this mean? I mean, is there that one room in your home, for example the bedroom, where you can add one thing that makes it more restful? Or simply add one item you already have or decided to keep in a place or manner that will give you that exciting feeling, that joyful feeling, that comforting feeling of the space.
Sometimes it can be so simple! I remember placing my favourite perfumes on my dresser instead of leaving them inside my dresser drawer, and this evoked a positive emotion, because that part of the dresser was bare. For you, it can be adding a rug or moving the rug from one space in the room to another.
Whether it is your bedroom, living room, kitchen or bathroom, there can always be that one thing you add that gives you the feeling you desire. What can you do today to make your home feel more like a home? What little item can you add, or shift after having decluttered? Book your session today.
